Who we are
Hockley’s Agency is a UK sole trader business based in Saffron Walden, Essex, run by Jensen Hockley. We provide websites, local SEO, paid advertising, brand and content, and related marketing services to businesses. This policy explains what personal information we collect through this website, why we collect it, and the rights you have over it.
Information we collect
Through this website, we only collect personal information when you choose to give it to us, mainly by sending an enquiry through a form. (How we find and contact businesses is explained under Businesses we contact.) Depending on the form, this may include your name, company name, email address, phone number, the service or package you are interested in, and anything you write in your message.
We also use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the site, such as which pages are viewed and how people find us. See the Cookies section below.
How our forms work
Enquiry forms are processed by Web3Forms, a form-handling service that passes your submission to us by email. Web3Forms acts only to deliver your message to us. We do not use your details for anything other than responding to your enquiry.
How we use your information
We use enquiry details to reply to you, discuss your business and the work you are interested in, and, if you go on to work with us, to deliver the services we agree. We do not use your details for unrelated marketing, and we never sell, rent or trade personal information.
Our lawful basis
We process enquiry information on the basis of legitimate interests, because responding to an enquiry is the reason you gave us the information. Where we go on to work together, we process information on the basis of contract, to deliver the work agreed.
How long we keep it
If an enquiry does not lead to work, we keep the details only for as long as needed to handle it, then delete them. Information about clients and completed work is kept for as long as needed to deliver the service and meet our accounting and tax obligations, normally no longer than six years. For businesses we contact ourselves, the times are set out under Businesses we contact.
Businesses we contact
Sometimes we contact local businesses we think we could help, one at a time, by phone or post. We only email a business if it is a limited company, and we only send a text, WhatsApp or email with a free audit if you’ve said you’d like one.
How we find you: we search Google Maps for kinds of business in UK towns, mostly near us, look at your Google listing and read your own website. Sometimes someone recommends a business to us, and we note what we were told. We use Anthropic’s Claude AI to help us review websites and write audits.
What we keep: your business name and contact details from your own website (phone, email, contact page), or the ones we were given (and who recommended you) if you were recommended to us. We also keep what your website says about your business, the owner’s name if your website gives it, our own notes, and a record of when we got in touch and what was said. We don’t keep the details from your Google listing (such as your star rating, reviews or Google phone number); we look them up again when we need them. From your Google listing we keep only its ID number and, if it links to a booking or trade site such as Checkatrade (or a social media page) instead of a website, which kind of site it is. A free audit is different: see Free audits below.
How long: if we don’t contact you, we delete these details within three months of finding you, and most within two weeks. Once we’ve been in touch, we keep them for 12 months after our last contact. If you become a client, we keep them for three years from then. Our notes are deleted at the same time.
Our “already looked at” list: so we don’t keep looking at, or contacting, the same business, we keep just your Google listing ID, your website address and, if we have it, your phone number, stored as a code worked out from it rather than as the number itself, used only to recognise it if it comes up again. How long depends on how far we got: between two weeks and two years (for example, six months if our checks ruled you out, 12 months if we decided you weren’t a fit or you told us you weren’t interested, and two years after we last spoke to you), or three years if we already know you personally. If you ask us not to contact you, or you become a client, we keep them for good; if you become a client and don’t have a website, we also keep your business name on that list.
Free audits: we sometimes prepare a free audit of a business’s online presence. It uses your public Google listing (your rating, number of reviews, a few recent reviews without reviewers’ names, and where you come on Google for a search), the businesses that come up alongside you, a speed test of your website from Google PageSpeed Insights, what your website says, and anything you’ve told us. Claude AI helps us write it, and we check it before sending. The private link stops working 30 days after we checked Google, or sooner if we take it down, and the full audit is deleted then. We can see how many times the link has been opened and when, but not who opened it. We then keep a one-line note until 12 months after we checked Google, so we don’t audit you twice: your Google listing ID, your website address, our score, when we sent it, how often and when it was last opened, and the kind of business, town and business name unless we took those from Google.
If you appear in someone else’s audit: an audit can list the businesses that come top on Google for the same search, with their name, website address, public Google rating, number of reviews and how recently they were last reviewed, as Google showed them that day, and a speed test of their website from Google PageSpeed Insights. That copy is deleted with the audit, within 30 days.
Why: our legitimate interest in telling local businesses about services that could help them win work. We keep only what we need for that, for as short a time as we can.
Saying no: if you’d rather we didn’t contact your business, call 07729 549429 or email jensenhockleywork@gmail.com and we’ll stop straight away. We’ll delete what we hold about you, including any audit (its link stops working). We’ll keep only your Google listing ID, website address and phone number (stored as a code, not the number itself), whichever we have, with the date you asked, so we never contact you again.
Where your data is handled
We’re based in the UK. Our audit tool and its database run in London. Some of the services we use are run by US companies, so your information may also be handled in the United States. When it is, it’s protected by safeguards recognised under UK law:
- Vercel (hosts this website and our audit tool): its data processing agreement includes the UK’s International Data Transfer Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses, and Vercel is certified under the UK Extension to the EU–US Data Privacy Framework (the “UK–US data bridge”).
- Upstash (our database, stored in London): Upstash, Inc. relies on the UK–US data bridge, with standard contractual clauses and the UK Addendum as a back-up.
- Anthropic (Claude AI): its data processing addendum includes the UK Addendum to the EU standard contractual clauses. Under its business terms, Anthropic doesn’t use what we send it to train its AI.
- Google (Maps, PageSpeed Insights, Analytics, the fonts on this website and our audit pages, and our email): Google LLC is certified under the UK–US data bridge, and Google’s terms also include standard contractual clauses with the UK Addendum.
You can ask us for details of these safeguards using the contact details below.
Cookies
This site uses Google Analytics, which sets cookies to tell visitors apart and show us how the site is used overall. These cookies do not identify you personally. You can block or delete them at any time in your browser settings, and the site will still work normally. We do not use cookies on this website for advertising or retargeting.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask what information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, delete it, restrict or object to how it is used, and ask for a copy in a portable format. To use any of these rights, contact us using the details below.
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), the UK’s data protection regulator.
Terms of service
These terms apply to enquiries made and work agreed through this website.
- Enquiries and quotes. Sending an enquiry creates no obligation on either side. A written scope and price is agreed before any work starts or any payment is taken.
- Prices. Prices shown on this website are correct at the time of publishing and exclude VAT. Third-party costs, such as advertising spend paid to Google or Meta, domain names and software, are agreed separately.
- Diagnostics. Where a Hockley Method or Custom Method starts with a paid Diagnostic, the Diagnostic fee is taken off the price of the programme if you go ahead, as agreed in writing.
- Ownership. Once paid for, you own your website, content and brand files. Ad accounts and Google Business Profiles are set up in your name.
- Your content. If you give us text, photos, logos or other material to use, you confirm you have the right to use it and to have it published.
- Refunds. All fees, including Diagnostic fees, setup fees and monthly fees already paid, are non-refundable once work has started. This does not affect your statutory rights.
- Results. We do the work to a high standard and report on it honestly, but we do not guarantee specific results such as rankings, enquiries or revenue, because these depend on things outside our control.
Any separate written agreement for a specific project takes priority over these terms if the two conflict.
